Well, everybody's been hankering for this bio (well, not really, but I thought I'd beat the Christmas rush!) so I thought I'd get on with it.
I've only been involved with Trivia since mid-April, when my Dad bought an IBM PS/1. In case you haven't noticed, I'm hooked! Even though I live in an apartment over my parent's garage (remember the Fonz on Happy Days?), I'm hardly ever there! Most of my spare time is spent at the computer.
And what is it I'm trying to attain spare time from, you ask? I am the manager of Strawberries Music and More, Saratoga Springs, NY, part of a 150+ store chain which also includes Waxie Maxie's. Despite that, LynnMc always seems to know a little more about music than me, and that REALLY PISSES ME OFF!!!! ; ) One of these days, Lynnster... {{}} Anyhow, that job keeps me going about 48-56 hours a week, counting travel time. So you can imagine how relaxing it is to get home and try to win an hour or two playing Trivia...
My first on-line experience was at the hands of Promenade, which is the PaulL54 moniker. When I joined AOL, I decided to just go with my real name, being far too uninventive to come up with a cool screen name. Besides, the best one...Mothra... had already been taken!! ; ) Unfortunately, Paul LeGere, according to the all-wise AOL god, was already in use. (Try to find info on this alleged user, though! sheesh!) So I inverted it to create my current ridiculous appellation.
My history is pretty boring. I've basically lived in Rotterdam all my life (which is about 20' from Albany) except for while I was upstate in Potsdam, flunking out of a state school. It was there I took enough computer courses to know I was taking more computer courses than I could ever understand. I switched to a Comm/ English major just before dropping out, but not before attaining the lofty position of Program Director at WRPS, the college station, which was second in command and roughly equivalent to being the second best ballerina in all of Butte. While there I wrote an award winning series (college literary award) on a fellow student who was actually graduating on-time despite missing a semester and a half while fighting Hodgkin's disease. I didn't realize how prophetic that would be...
After dropping out in December 1982 (fully intending to go back, and never actually doing it of course) I bopped around from boring job to boring job until landing my position at Strawberries' Rotterdam branch. That disappeared in December of 1983 when the store closed. I held various Ticketron type positions until May of 1986, when I rejoined Strawberries. In August of 1986, I developed swelling around my neck which, when one of my employees showed concern, I remembered my series in college and joked, "It's probably just Hodgkin's disease!"
In February of 1987, I had such constant pain in various parts of my body that I gave in and admitted myself for tests and indeed it WAS Hodgkin's. Modern medicine being what it is however, I came through six cycles of chemo and a month of radiation with flying colors. and at this point, 3 1/2 years later, have shown no signs of recurrence. :)x
Since then. not much has changed. I was Zone Manager (like assistant District Manager) for about a year until the new owners of Strawberries abolished the position and put me back into a store, where I currently preside. It is a completely remodeled version, and I am damn proud of what I've accomplished in it. So how's that for braggadacio? ; )
On a more personal level, I've only had two serious relationships in my life (one of them breaking up being another contributing factor for my not returning to college right away) and another which just terminated recently (beginning of the summer). The first I've never even heard from again, though I'd like to, and the second calls me all the time though I'd preferred I'd never heard from her again!! Go figure!!
My family is scattered all over the country: sister and brother in SLC, brother in Burnt Hills NY, sister in Raleigh/Durham (all married), a brother in Victoria TX, a brother in Niskayuna NY, and my brother Marty whom some of you may know as Stoogecat or Devildogg, who currently resides at home but is bound for the Marines this December. Semper fi, Stooge!!
That's about it, I've bored you to tears long enough I would think. I'd just like to thank all of you out there in the Trivia Family Network for being so nice, but especially: Molluskat, Martella, Jancis, Emma Peel, Stew91, Romp, SirT, Deb Darlin,Jim102, Nightmusic, FearlessL, Mothra, and lastly, SPACENET!! {{}} to all, and my humblest apologies to whoever I've forgotten!!
